Follow the save/skip ratio.

Streams are the vanity metric. Save rate and skip rate are the metrics Spotify actually uses to decide whether your song deserves algorithmic reach. If you're not reading them daily during release week, you're flying blind.

Watch: Spotify Skip Rates EXPLAINED: Save Your Reach in 2026

The numbers that matter

Save Rate above 8% in the first 7 days is a strong signal. Above 12% and Discover Weekly / Release Radar amplification is very likely. Skip Rate below 25% is healthy; below 15% is exceptional. These are the two levers Spotify's editorial and algorithmic teams both watch.

How to check

Spotify for Artists → Music → the track → 'Playlists' + 'Listeners' + 'Audience'. Log the numbers in a simple spreadsheet daily. If saves are low, your art / title / opening 15 seconds isn't earning them. If skips are high, your intro is too long.

What to do if numbers are weak

Don't panic-post. Do double down on short-form: cut a 15-second clip using the exact 15 seconds of the song that scored highest in listener retention (visible in S4A). Pitch that clip to 3 curators. Ask superfans to save (not stream) via your mailing list.

What to do if numbers are strong

Feed the fire. Post more from the same angle that worked. Pitch the track for Release Radar-friendly placements. Consider a low-budget Meta ad ($5/day for 7 days) to a lookalike of your top listeners — this is one of the few paid tactics that reliably moves algorithmic signal.
