Post the mistake, not the polished take.
The music video is for your fans. The mistake take is for the algorithm. In 2026 the platforms are relentlessly rewarding unpolished, human, first-person footage — and punishing anything that feels like an ad. If you're a signed indie fighting for reach, this is the shift you can't ignore.
Why raw beats polished
TikTok's ranking model weights completion rate and re-watch above almost everything else. A 20-second clip of you laughing through a bad take is watched to the end. A 60-second cinematic teaser is scrolled at 4 seconds. The math is brutal — and it favours you.
The five formats that work in 2026
1) Rehearsal room, one shot, phone on a chair. 2) Songwriting POV — voice memo overlay with a note on why you wrote it. 3) Green room banter and van chat. 4) 'Reacting to my own lyrics' with genuine embarrassment. 5) A fan singing your song louder than you.
The captioning rule
Caption in the first person and end with a real question. 'I nearly cut this line — do you think I should have?' outperforms 'Out now on all platforms' by an order of magnitude. Questions drive comments; comments drive reach.
Frequency
Five posts a week minimum during a campaign. Batch-shoot on a Sunday, schedule through the week. Never post the same clip cross-platform without a fresh caption and hook — the platforms detect and demote it.
